Tableau vs OBIEE

Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition is a popular and comprehensive BI tool to deliver a full range of data analysis and present reports using a unified, contemporary and scalable architecture. OBIEE has the excellent abilities for reporting, analysis, ad hoc query, (OLAP), dashboards and scorecards.
Why do enterprises prefer and trust OBIEE even though we have several other efficient and effective BI tools and suites? You must know that OBIEE gives immense ease to operate and implement it via web-based interactive workspaces, , mobile devices and Microsoft Office applications. Moreover, the hierarchy drilling feature of this tool is yet another remarkable service making it a widely-used choice of enterprises. Graphical reporting and global support and development capabilities serve as a cherry on the cake both for consumers/clients and business groups.
If you are looking to remove redundancy in report generation and save your time in applying the data analysis and report creation techniques, this is the right fit and thus, important to learn and master. We have developed a technically-rich OBIEE tutorial to assist the Data Analysts and Business Intelligence Developers and let them enhance their skill set. Well-explained using illustrations, you can take a quick tour and gain understanding of several core functionalities and processes used in BI and then apply them to your live data analytics projects and assignments.

User filtering in Tableau

A user filter can be created once a dashboard is published on the server & that user logs in on server to view the dashboard. It cannot be applied on Tableau desktop or the reader version.
Let say you have created a dashboard with 1 worksheet for priority(P1/P2/P3/P4 etc.) of Delhi/NCR and you want some specific user to see just the Priority only for “P1 wards of Delhi”
P1 wards of New Delhi - Green
P2 wards of New Delhi - Blue.. etc.
These are the steps you can follow :
  1. In the desktop version go to that sheet
  2. Click on Server Drop-down menu or click Alt+S.
  3. Click on “Create User Filter” and Then on which column you want to restrict the rights, it will prompt you to give your tableau server credentials.
  4. Log-in as an “Administrator”
  5. A new window will appear, like the image below.
6. Give a name to this filter and select a user to which you want to give rights to see only P1 wards.
7. As soon as you will select a USER and Member and click “OK”,it will create a User filter 1 in the Sets block and will appear where you generally make sets.
8. Drag this set in the “filters shelf”,where to generally drag filters.
See in the image above : User Filetr 1 has been dragged to Filters Shelf.
9. Upload this dashboard/worksheet to the server.
10. Done !!
Next time when that particular user will open this dashboard with their credentials on your tableau server,He/She will only see P1 priority and not P2/P3/P4 etc.
Access Restricted.!!

Hope this helps,For more solutions keep watching this space.

How can you see underlying SQL queries in Tableau?

when you're interacting with Tableau Dashboard it will execute some queries on datasources and build the view on dashboard.if you wants to know this then DO PERFORMANCE RECORDING ON TABLEAU WORKBBOKS ->download performance recording of dashboard in the format of Tableau workbook
In that workbook you can see queries executed by Tableau.and also how much time it has taken for compiling the query, executing the query and building the view etc..,

Does Tableau server/online versions need Tableau Desktop?

No, Tableau Server and Tableau online versions do not need Tableau Desktop.

Tableau Public

Can you learn basics of Tableau with Tableau Public which is free?

Absolutely. The basic difference between Tableau Desktop & Tableau Public is that Desktop version can connect to different number of data sources like Oracle, mysql, salesforce, spark Tables, hadoop, text files and many others whereas Public can only connect to text files. Also there is limit on number of records you can pull in. Also you can only save your visualization on Tableau public server which can be downloaded by anyone so unless there's some confidential data you are working with Tableau public cannot be used. Apart from that the functionality is almost same. Tableau Public is a great tool to start learning data visualization.
